Karen has a diploma in Technical Hand Embroidery from the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) in Surrey, United Kingdom, where she learned about traditional goldwork embroidery techniques that embellish coronation robes. She will share knowledge about how Royal School of Needlework embroiderers made all coronation robes during the 20th century for the following monarchs: King Edward VII, King George V, King Edward VII, King George V, King George VI, and Queen Elizabeth II. At this time, another generation of embroiderers are now creating robes for the May 6, 2023, coronation of King Charles III. Karen will describe what to expect in each segment of the coronation ceremony, as well as the specific clothing worn for various parts of the ceremony.
